Chilkoot Exploration Tour

This tour is a great way to see the highlights of both Skagway and Dyea, home of the Chilkoot Trail of '98 and an incredible wilderness area!

Motor through historic Skagway, enjoying Gold Rush stories along the way. A beautiful coastal drive along the Taiya Inlet brings you past Face Mountain. Watch for seals or porpoise in Long Bay. The area is home to numerous waterfowl, and this is prime habitat for eagles, seals and otter as well.

Arriving in the Dyea valley, we'll stop at the Taiya River, home to the eulachon fish, a staple of the native population, before continuing to the Chilkoot Trail, historically the most popular route to the Klondike gold fields! Stretch your legs with a short hike along the trail, sign in at the registry and add your name to the elite list of Chilkoot Trail hikers! Watch for eagles, seals and waterfowl, often spotted in the area.

Enjoy a snack at West Creek and try your hand at panning for gold in a real Alaskan river, stroll the Avenue of Spruces in the heart of Dyea. Return trip includes stops at the Skagway Overlook with a panoramic view of the town, harbor and ships, and a stop at our famous Gold Rush Cemetery for tales of the outlaw, Soapy Smith, and a chance to view mother nature up close with a short hike to Reid Falls (seasonal).

Fully narrated with gold rush history and lore. If you'd like something a little more active than the average ride-and-listen routine, this is the tour for you.
